Family pets are permitted to visit Residents. Before bringing your pet in, please make sure the receptionist receives a copy of current vaccination records. Also, please be sure to sign in your pet in the pet register at the reception desk on the day of visit.
Clothing should be comfortable, loose fitting and easy to put on and take off. Shoes and slippers should fit well and have a good tread. Please remember that all clothing should be labeled with the resident's name. Names will help us to make sure belongings get back to their rightful owners.

Long Term Care provides 24 hour nursing care to residents who are medically stable but who are unable to care for themselves or by a loved one. Medicare is a "short term" benefit. It will cover up to 100 days in a skilled nursing facility provided you meet the qualifying criteria. Medicare does not pay for Long Term Care. You do not automatically receive 100 days of Medicare coverage. The number of days that Medicare will pay for is based upon the progress you make towards goals during your stay.
Medicare requires all patients who are being skilled for rehabilitation to receive therapy at least 5 days per week. Our gym is open 7 days a week and most patients are seen by both physical and occupational therapy either 5 or 6 days a week. Your therapist will determine the amount and frequency of the therapy you receive based upon what you are able to tolerate.
After your initial evaluation, which is generally done on the day of your admission, you will receive a daily schedule with your therapy times. There is a whiteboard in every room where we list the shift supervisor, your nurse, your aide and your therapy times for the day.
As a general rule, Medicare's position is that patients who require an inpatient stay should not generally be allowed to leave the facility. We encourage people to limit requests for leaves of absence to special events, however, each request is evaluated on a case by case basis by the interdisciplinary team.

People with Alzheimer's have special needs that can be best met in a unit designed specifically for them. The Elms does not have a dedicated Alzheimer's unit.
Although most of the Administrative staff works Monday through Friday, the direct patient care staff ratios do not change. However, we always have at least one Department Head in the building for several hours each day of the weekend to ensure that the facility operates as smoothly on the weekends as it does during the week.
Here at The Elms our goal to to always exceed the minimum staffing requirements set by the Department of Health and Senior Services.
